Re: Soggy March

Seems the sogginess carries on into April.
10.6mm on the 1st
5.2mm in the 2nd

April 2017 had only 6.6mm in the entire month!
At least I shan't have to water the garden for a while...

Re: First significant winter snowfall on Wirral

Snow depth at Farnborough peaked at 6.5 cm at 1730 yestetrday, before melting today - very little left now. I had two ice days, March 1 (max -1.3C) and March 2 (max -0.9C). I use 00-00 as my reporting period. These are the only two ice days I have recorded in my nearly 5 years of living here, and th...

Re: First significant winter snowfall on Wirral

Here at Farnborough:
3.5cm snow lying this morning at 0900 after yesterday's heavy snow showers.
4.5cm lying at 2015 after further mainly light snow today.
Max temp today -1.3C so looks like an ice day.
Possible heavy snow tonight; we shall see if it gets this far east.

Ophelia

Something strange is going on. It's 30 years after the Great Storm, and as we approach the anniversary, a hurricane is approaching the British Isles...well, an ex-hurricane, Ophelia. From the GFS chart, it looks like it will hit Ireland on the 16th - the exact anniversary of the Great Storm. My esti...

Re: July - A Glorious Change in the Weather

Same change here at Farnborough, but I note that you had 25.5C today, whereas I only got to 22.4C. The wind, however, was generally from the NW, so maybe this stopped your sea breeze from developing and gave a higher maximum?

Finally - rain!

After 15 rainless days, we finally had a shower here in Farnborough this evening. 0.5mm, so it didn't do much - still used the hose in the garden. But with that length of rainless spell and the heat (5 days >28C) it meant that unwatered grass and plants were showing drought stress. Looks like we mig...

Re: No named storm but

24.2mm in my gauge here in Farnborough this morning. Winds quite strong but no damage around here - just a few branches down. After the dry April/start of May, the rain and warmth has got the garden growing with almost tropical speed. Roses flowering in May! I'm surprised they didn't name that storm...

Re: Dry start to April

Same here in Farnborough. 1.7mm in 10 days, none since the 3rd. Also remarkably sunny. Although I don't have a sunshine recorder, I see that Reading University has recorded 93 hours of sunshine in 10 days, which equates to approximately 75% of possible sunshine. Garden watering has started in earnes...
