Re: Winter rain trend

.... similar for this neck of the woods IMO: this is the record for nearby Hurn airport, based on Met Office published (web) data. Dashed line is linear trend over the entire series, and the grey/solid line is the 10-year rolling total.

Re: Orange Sun

... the latest (October 2017) Bulletin has an excellent summary of the overall nature of this event - provided by Donald Perkins, and of course there are many individual reports contained elsewhere in that publication. From another group, I offer the following animation .... which shows the principa...

Re: Orange Sun

... Similar experience to others here (West Moors/East Dorset): whilst out shopping around 0930-1030Z, sky becoming increasingly dark/threatening (Beaufort = "u" perhaps?) and by the time we got home 1045Z, my wife was getting seriously worried that 'something' awful was going to happen. No rain of ...

Re: Are summers becoming wetter?

That seems to tie in with this graphic on the Met Office site .... England only .... also (not shown) it is reflected in the EWP series since at least 1970:

Re: Snow pellets

... well, I'll pitch in to be shot down(!): I always regard such as a day of /hail/ - *unless* the shower is genuinely accompanied (as in the published definition) by flakes of snow - in which case I record both a day with hail and snow. All the coding for things like NCMs, Beauforts, SYNOPs (old an...

... thanks for posting that image: every time I see these 'lobes' I'm captivated by the apparent complexity of exactly how they form. The article you mention gives a creditable mechanism - but I wonder how many looking upwards on a fine day realise just how 'dynamic' is the atmosphere around these f...

Re: Summer temperature trend

... I maintain a couple of series which try to capture the 'goodness'/'badness' of summers based on sunshine and maxima - the two parameters that most people would judge a summer by. There's a lot of 'fudging' involved due to changes of equipment, locations, units of measurement etc., but I believe ...
