November 2016 - Sunny so far but cold by night

This November is continuing as October ended by turning out to be rather a sunny month so far. A big improvement on last year's November which ended up the dullest of any month (49.1 hours) I have recorded since setting up my sunshine recorder in 2006. The relatively high amount of sunshine this mon...

Re: October 2016: Near-Record Dry in Stornoway & Sunny

Edward, a similar story here though not as extreme with sunshine around 130% of the average with 165.4 hours. October is usually one of the wettest months of year (closely followed by November & December) and a huge contrast to the normally very dry September. It really seems as if October is the st...

Re: October 2016 - 1st - 12th Dry, sunny and warm

Not so dry since the 14th and now just over half-way through the month it's still a sunny but not so warm one. October 1st - 17th: Mean minimum = 7.6°C Mean maximum = 16.6°C Mean = 12.1°C Rain = 26.5 mm Sunshine = 102 hours. The mean temperature is now around average though it has been the relative ...

October 2016 - 1st - 12th Dry, sunny and warm

With only 4.6 mm on the 1st this is so far turning out to be a very dry month. Unusual for October in that normally it is the start of the 'rainy' season and one of the wetter months of the year bringing a big change from September (one the driest months of the year). It is also turning out to be a ...

Re: September 2016 - 1st Half 'Warm and often cloudy'

The September warmth has continued as so has the rather low amounts of sunshine. Saying that though, today was one of the sunnier days this month with over 10 hours of the lovely, warm, bright stuff and another 20°C day. The monthly sunshine total passed 100 hours today which still puts this month's...

Re: Summer temperature trend

Len, my record only goes back to 2005. I suspect the exceptionally warm summer of 2006 and then the very poor summers of 2007, 2008, 2011 & 2012 have had an influence somewhat. These wet/cool summers were rather exceptional (to me they were) and led to some of the worst summer weather I have ever ex...

Re: Dry spell in SE England

Here in SW Devon I have a total of 60.2 mm 1st Sep to 17th Sep. Couple of large falls of 25 and 16 mm in that total. About 74 mm is the average total for September in these parts. I've just totalled up my gauge rainfall for this month (1st - 18th) and it is at 28.6 mm (the TBR unusually had over-eg...

Re: Dry spell in SE England

For the same 1st July - 14th September period the rainfall here has been 74 mm. That's around 55% of my estimated LTA for the same period. Recent thunderstorms and showers have started to green-up the countryside and my grass has begun to grow again and look a bit less like straw. The rainy season u...

September 2016 - 1st Half 'Warm and often cloudy'

The heat affecting parts of central and south eastern England hasn't managed to come this far west and whilst this has been a warm September so far, the maximum day temperatures haven't really been that unusual and not far off what you would expect for the 1st half of the month, which really is a co...
