Frosty January

Although January has disappointed in terms of snow (only some wet snow on Jan 12th/13th) it has excelled in terms of frost, at least here in Farnborough. The dominant high pressure has meant many clear and calm nights.
Up to today (22nd) I have recorded 15 days with air frost (and as it is -2C now tomorrow will also have air frost). As the last two nights were down to -5C, the garden is frozen hard.
My mean minumum temperature stands at -0.3C, which is around 1.8C below the long term average. The mean maximum temperature is 6.9C, which is around 0.8C below the LTA. As expected in dry and clear weather, the diurnal range is above normal.
It looks like the high pressure will be dominant for one more week in the south-east, so it looks like January will end up colder than normal.
