Warmest day so far.

Post by Richard Hunt » Thu May 05, 2016 8:42 pm

Warmest day of the year so far with a screen maximum of 19.2c. A moderate South east breeze kept it pegged back a bit.

Just over a week ago I had snow falling at this station.

A maximum of 20.3°C here yesterday (8th May) with the temperature being pegged back a little by a strong breeze in off the sea. That's the warmest day since the 29th September (20.9°C). Rather unusually, last October had no days above 20°C though many came very close.

I suspect today will be warmer still. Already 19.8°C at 09:30 and feeling more humid with a DP around 15°C.

Another breezy day with the wind coming in off the sea, that ESE wind probably strengthened by the development of a sea breeze. It kept the temperature pegged back to between 19.5°C to 19.8°C and a DP of ~13°C despite unbroken sunshine. Then at 16:00 there was a subtle change in wind direction to easterly and an abrupt rise in temperature to 21.6°C and drop in humidity with the DP falling from 12°C to 8°C.

The overnight minimum was 14.1°C, this being quite high for early May and is the highest May minimum since 16.1°C on the 26th May 2012. My 'earliest' May high minimum was 14.4°C on the 4th May 2008.

The temperature at 20:10 this evening is 20.1°C, it has clouded over and a strong breeze is blowing. I suspect my highest May minimum temperature could be broken tonight.

Fairly sunny so far this May with 70.1 hours (1st - 8th).

26.5C was the max at Farnborough today. Sunny most of the day but some patchy high cloud. Fresh breeze from ESE.
Also dry: the dewpoint at the time of the max temp was 10.8C giving an RH of 38%

Today was also the warmest of the year so far, here near the NW end of the Wirral. The temperature rose rapidly in the afternoon, in bright sunshine, after a morning of stubbornly persistent medium and upper level cloud cover. The maximum of 25.2 deg C occurred around 4 to 5 pm this afternoon.

The moderate SE wind was clearly responsible for drawing warm air over us from the mainland, but also was strong enough to stop any sea breeze circulation occurring over the peninsula.

Unlike yesterday, when a line of high level Cb, complete with a chaotic and purple sky, gave a spell of thundery rain around sunset, the sky this evening has mostly cleared except for a little thin high cloud.

Unlike the rest of the country, today has been quite cool here on the Yorkshire coast.
A screen maximum of 14.9c was the best we could do, a moderate easterly breeze coming off the sea helped to keep the maximum down.

Nice in the sun and out of the wind.
