April 2017 dryness

Post by Len Wood » Wed May 03, 2017 7:58 pm

85% of the rainfall for April here fell on the first and last days.
9.9 mm on 1st and 15.6 mm on 30th.
Total for month 30 mm.

The rain on the last day ruined any chance of record dryness.

Otherwise it would have beaten the previous driest April of 14.8 mm in 2011.

It just goes to show how arbitrary it is dividing the year into months for climatological studies.
